The top focus as of now is Israeli Airstrikes in Gaza, tensions are mounting again between Israel and Palestine. At least 15 people were killed in airstrikes on the Gaza Strip. This includes a Palestinian Islamic Jihad commander and a child. At least 55 other people have been wounded in the strikes. The Gaza base has an Islamic Jihad group that has vowed to hit back by bombing central Israel. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad is blacklisted as a terrorist organization by both the European Union and the United States.

Israel says- it was striking sights linked to the Islamic Jihad. This includes the Highrise Palestine tower in Gaza City where the commander lived. The strike comes after days of tensions between Israel and the Gaza-based group. Earlier, Israel arrested two senior Islamic Jihad members in the occupied West Bank. The strikes come four days after Israel closed its two border crossings with Gaza. It also restricted the movement of Israeli civilians living near the borders.

One of the Reporter says
– The southern areas bordering Gaza, have been told to prepare their bomb shelters, not to gather in large groups over the weekend, and to stay as close as possible to the shelters. We’ve just heard here in Renawna that the mayor has announced that they have been opening public shelters across the city and again urging residents not to go too far from shelters, as Palestinian Islamic Jihad vows to take revenge.

Israeli jets continue to pound targets in Gaza, while Palestinian militants have been firing rockets back into southern Israel. As a five-year-old girl is mourned, fears of an escalation are rising.

Israeli forces target an apartment building in Gaza City, just one of many airstrikes launched into the coastal strip. Israel says the attacks were in response to an imminent threat from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group. The strikes come after Israeli forces arrested a senior militant in the West Bank early this week. Israel carried out a precise counter-terror operation against an immediate threat. Our fight is not with the people of Gaza. Islamic Jihad is an Iranian proxy that wants to destroy the state of Israel and kill innocent Israelis. The head of Islamic Jihad is interferon as we speak. We will do whatever it takes to defend our people. An Islamic Jihad commander was killed in the strikes and the group vowed to retaliate.

The Israeli Airstrikes in Gaza risk igniting yet another war in the territory. The Gaza Strip is ruled by Hamas and is home to about 2 million Palestinians. Hamas says that Israel has committed a new crime for which it must pay the price.

DW correspondent Tanya Kramer Reported
I think people are deeply worried about this, especially in Gaza. You mentioned that they hardly recovered there from the last war in May 2021. Now, of course, we don’t know yet. They’re in the middle of an escalation right now, whether this will take days or whether this will be a full-blown war at the end. But it has been certainly a very difficult night for people in the south of Israel. But also, of course, in the Gaza strip. The Israeli military has continued to carry out airstrikes. They said that they have targeted at least 30 sites. It describes belonging to the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad. At the same time, rockets have been launched all morning. There have been air raid sirens. So people in the south have to stay in their safe rooms, in their bomb shelters. Now, the Israeli army says that over 190 rockets were fired yesterday, mainly in the south to the south in the center with the iron dome, the defense system intercepting many of them. Some also fell in open areas and some also fell inside Gaza. That is according to the Israeli army

Israeli Airstrikes in GazaIsrael says that they received intelligence of attacks by Palestinian Islamic Jihads before the arrest this week of Bassem Sadi, the Islamic Jihad’s West Bank leader. They also had intelligence of imminent attacks following his arrest, and that led to road closures around the southern villages and towns near the Gaza border.

All of this week’s mediation efforts have been taking place involving Egypt. They are said to have been exhausted. And Ayelet Shaked, the Interior Minister, claims that Israel is not prepared to be held hostage by a terror group.

Prime Minister Yair Lapid said that whoever tries to threaten or harm the citizens of Israel will get hurt. And even the labor leader has said that she supports this operation. So really, there is consensus across the Israeli political parties that Israel can’t just sit back and do nothing and wait for what they say is a terror attack, an imminent terror attack from Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
